Location. The Hotel Cala del Sol is located in Grand Resort Playitas, on the island of Fuerteventura, Spain, less than 200 metres from the beach. The fishing village of Gran Tarajal is five kilometres away, and it is 45 kilometres to the island's capital, Puerto Rosario.
Hotel Features. Built to a Moorish design, with arched corridors and windows and whitewashed walls, the Hotel Cala del Sol is surrounded by date palms and desert plants. With views of the mountains and the sea, the hotel has a large swimming pool area with palm- shaded sun terrace. It also offers a 24-hour front desk, currency exchange, and complimentary parking.
A complimentary buffet breakfast is served in the main restaurant, which has a vegetarian and children's menu. There is also a Spanish restaurant, decorated with colourful touches to resemble a Spanish warehouse, and an Italian pizzeria.
There are eight seminar rooms of varying sizes available for meetings, and Internet connections are offered.
A variety of recreation opportunities in the Playitas resort include complimentary diving lessons, windsurfing, kayaking, and other water sports. There is also a fitness room with yoga and Pilates classes, beach volleyball, Nordic walking, bicycle hire, and archery. In addition, there is a regular programme of evening entertainment and a kids' club.
Guestrooms. The 223 air-conditioned guestrooms have balconies overlooking the sea or mountains. Amenities include satellite television with pay movies, minibars, and Internet connections (surcharge).
Expert Tip. Whales, dolphins, marlins and turtles are all spotted frequently by divers off the coast of Fuerteventura.
